How much money have I made off of a Spotify Editoral playlist in 6 months?
About 6 months ago I woke up in the morning and found out while checking out my Spotify Artist statistics from the day before, that my song “Morning” was added to a brand new Spotify Editorial playlist called “Rise”! Needless to say I was excited for multiple reasons, 1) I was added without pitching to a Spotify Editorial playlist, and 2) I got to see how it grew from ZERO followers and how that directly affects my streams on said playlist. To make things even better, my song was in the top 20 of the first songs listed. Jackpot baby!
So how did my song perform over the first 6 months? Well, to start, It double my monthly streams. And on top of that, as expected, the saves for the song really took off. Of course that is a huge plus, because now I show up more on listeners’ daily mixes and library spins. As the playlist grew, so did my streams compared to previous reports.
So all of those things are big positives! Now I’m going to tell you a few things that I expected, that didn’t happen by getting on this Spotify playlist.
First, the playlist didn’t grow as fast as I thought it would. 6 months in and it has a little over 17,000 followers. Nothing to shake a stick at, but nothing groundbreaking. Secondly, I was hoping getting one playlist would open up the doors to many more editorial playlists, and it didn’t. I was added to another one a few weeks after, but that one continues to sit around only 2,000 followers. And the one thing I didn’t expect, was the playlist to be reshuffled a few weeks ago… I went from top 20 listed songs to number 37. Out of over 5 hours of music, you’d think that wouldn’t matter much? Well, the difference between being in the first 55 mins of listening vs in the second hour, is the streams being cut in half from the playlist! OUCH!
Still, overall my streams and follows have definitely grown over the past 6 months and I continually pitch every new release to Spotify Editors via the Spotify Artist dashboard. I absolutely check my playlist streams everyday to see if I may have snuck onto another playlist, but no such luck yet!
